Prayer and communing with God are vital for spiritual direction. We often turn to the Holy Spirit for counsel, blessings, and comfort in the midst of desperation. But what about hearing God’s voice? Do you make a habit of listening for God’s voice, and if not, what would it look like to pause on a daily basis and be open to hearing what he has to say?
In this week’s TD, we look at the AndSons podcast and their exploration of “The Everyday Voice of God.” This topic covers several ways we can make this communication easier. John Eldredge gives his advice on seeking God’s word based on his own experiences, and the mission of his ministry Wild at Heart:
Calm – taking the stress away by talking to God about all things, not just stressful situations. Quiet – Listening for God’s voice in the stillness of the day. Open – being willing to listen to what He has to say. Confirmation – asking for a clear answer before making any important or difficult life decisions.
Join us as we navigate the challenge of seeking God’s voice, and how we can grow in this intimate relationship with our creator.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
- What thoughts and feelings get in the way of really accepting that the creator of the universe might want to talk to you? Disbelief? Unworthiness? Fear?
- What practical difference would it make in your life to know you could seek, and receive God’s intimate counsel?
- Where do you see this kind of thing going wrong? Have you seen this concept/practice being abused?
- Given the variety of ways God communicates with us (ex: dreams, the still, small voice, scripture, other people) which methods are the most comfortable? Which are the least?
- Is this practice already part of your life? If so, how did it start and how comfortable are you in this practice? If not, why not?
